Ghrita based Ayurvedic medicines are special Ayurvedic medicines in which herbs are processed and prepared in Ghrita (ghee). Or we can say, we use Ghee as a base material to prepare this kind of Ayurvedic medicine.

As of my clinical experience in most of the PCOS/ PCOD case, adding a Medhya Rasayan in treatment gives a miraculous result (especially in Ghritam form like Kalyanaka ghritam, Sukumara ghritam, Brahmi ghritam).
Medhya Rasayana is the Ayurvedic medicine or supplements beneficial for brain and nervous system. They may be a single herb or a polyherbal formula or purified and processed herbo-mineral combination. It helps in normalisation of endocrinal secretions and leads to hormonal balance. Also, it helps to check the mood swing which commonly found in this case.
In the case of PCOD, it helps in normalisation of endocrinal secretions, balances hormonal level, checks the mood swing and other psychological symptoms.
The reason behind preferring Ghrita based Medhya Rasayan instead of other Medhya Rasayana Kalpa (like Kashayam, Vati, Arishtam, Churna etc.) is that the Ghrita is the only medium which crosses the blood-brain barrier and hence works effectively in diseases with psychosomatic involvement.

- Chandraprabha Vati
- Punarnavadi Vati
- Manasmitram Vatakam
- Kankayan Gulika (Gulma)
- Dhanwantaram Gulika etc.
Panchakarma for PCOD
A systemic combination of various Panchakarma therapies like Abhyangam, Swedana, Patra Pottali Swedana, Udvartana, Shirodhara, Virechanam, Vasti and Nasyam are also recommended for detoxification of vitiated dosha.
